Is your Log Home in need of repair?

Most homeowners are unaware of the damage causes by weather, carpenter bee, bugs, insects, and log dry rot. Your home may be in danger of collapse or cause mold to grow and mold can have a negative effect on your health.

Sure signs you may need log home repair services:

  • Windows or doors not closing or opening correctly
  • Exterior logs wet or covered with soil after a  rain storm
  • Water leaks during a storm
  • Stairs and decks no longer level
  • Exterior log finish will not bead water
  • Gaps or cracking in the chink or caulk between logs

Where log rot will show up:

  • Upward Facing Checks in logs (Large Cracks in Logs)
  • Bottom Course Logs
  • Areas with no gutters
  • Butt Joint Areas
  • Dove Tails
  • Around Windows
  • Splashback areas on deck

Process for Log Repair:

Fundamentals to removing logs:

  • Perform Log Evaluation
  • (First we perform a log evaluation determining the bostering system between the logs. Typically logs are secured together with wood dowels, log screws, spikes, lags, log hog type screws, etc. It differs depending on their notching styles. )
  • Remove Logs from Wall (To remove logs from the wall we sever the fastners using a reciprocating saw.)
  • Support the remaining logs
  • Remove the damaged logs (or portion of)
  • Insert a matching new log
  • Scribe and fit the new log
  • Settle the wall.

Sill logs (bottom round of log wall and below windows) are replaced the most. Most log walls are notched, so it may be neccessary to segment the log to be removed. Sometimes just the log crowns (part that extends beyond the notch) need replacing and the rest of the log is fine.

We can match any log profiles:

  • "D" Logs
  • Round Logs
  • Square Logs
  • Half-Logs
  • Chink Siding
  • Hand Hewn

Our lumber is treated by ES+Wood Borate a natural preservative and safe for the environment. Borates resist attacks by Subterranean Termites, Dampwood Termites, Drywood Termites, Powder Post Beetles, Carpenter Ants, other Wood-Destroying Insects & Decay Fungi.
